Boy Scouts of America

Cub Scout Pack 3 – Burlington, IA

Chartered by Notre Dame

Who we are:   Pack 3 was started in 2015 after a move from being chartered by Ss John and Paul Parish.  The move was after several years at Ss John and Paul.  The troop’s current membership stands at 15 boys in grades 1-5, and 7 registered Adult Leaders.   Membership in Cub Scouts is open to any boy who is enrolled in Kindergarten through 5th Grade and is open to any boy in the Burlington area.  We currently have two boys enrolled that are not students at Notre Dame.

In 2016, for the first time, Cub Scouts will be open to Kindergartners in a limited activity program.  Pack 3 is participating in this program and hopes to contribute to its success.

What we do:  Pack 3 meets once a month on Tuesday nights in the Notre Dame cafeteria at 6:30 pm.  Boys in Kindergarten meet less frequently due to the age of these boys.   During our meetings we promote working on rank advancement in a way that is fun and exciting for the boys.  We also use this time to plan upcoming activities with the parents in attendance.  Each Den (broken out by grade) may have additional meetings to work on rank advancement and activities.  All parents are encouraged to attend all of our meetings.  Cub Scouts is a parent led activity and the pack’s success can directly be attributed to the involvements of parents.

Pack 3 is involved in many activities during and outside of their regular meeting time.  We typically are invited to spend a day at camp with Boy Scout Troop 3 each month, except for the summer months.  Their campouts are at State or County Parks, Boy Scout reservations, or other public campsites.  At campouts, we work on outdoor skills, activity requirements, and conservation projects.  All cub scouts are expected to participate in scout duties during campouts (cooking, cleaning, gathering firewood, etc.).

Pack 3 also volunteers at many local events, such as Earth Day clean-up, the Garrett’s Path 5K, Scouting for Food, as well as help with special activities at Notre Dame, such as Color Guard for some athletic events, and holding our own Pinewood Derby race and our annual Blue and Gold Banquet.
